DePaul University Student Government Association records
Scope and Contents
The Student Government Association records contain administrative materials, correspondence and memoranda, meeting minutes, reports, student surveys, financial documents, election materials, initiatives, proposals, analog and digital photographs, and other materials documenting SGA's various advocacy efforts on campus. The records also document SGA's involvement in state-level issues, as well as their own internal administration.

Biographical / Historical
The purpose of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to provide a legitimate representative body of students who act as an official voice for the students of DePaul University. A student run group, the SGA is led by an executive branch and senators and liaisons representing each of DePaul’s colleges. Each year the SGA’s Elections Operations Board (EOB) oversees the election of the group’s executive branch.
The SGA identifies as an instrument of cooperation among DePaul’s students, faculty, and administrative staff, and the group maintains communication with university administrators and local and state-wide elected officials to express the concerns of the student body. In the past, the SGA has advocated for student issues such as academic affordability, campus-wide environmental initiatives, extended library hours, and a diverse and safe educational atmosphere.

Early material in this collection came from the office of the Student Government Association (SGA) under the presidency of Michael Gibbs; later material was transferred under the presidency of Casey Clemmons. Other items were integrated from existing Student Affairs collections. The Elections materials are from the Elections Operations Board (EOB). Photographs of SGA students included in accession 2012.10 are currently housed in the University Photographs collection.
