DePaul University Faculty Council records
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of the records of the Faculty Council. It includes meeting minutes, correspondence and memos, revisions of university policy, documents from other university departments, faculty newsletters, and several versions of the Faculty Handbook. As these records were deposited from various retiring members of the Faculty Council, not all years contain the same level of documentation.

Individuals wishing to access Confidential series records will apply directly to the sitting Faculty Council president for permission. Upon approval by Faculty Council’s Executive Committee, the Faculty Council President will notify the University Archivist and the Head of Special Collections and Archives via email when permission for access has been granted. Biographical / Historical
In 1983, DePaul reviewed its governance structure and established councils to represent the four major constituencies of the University community. The Faculty Council was established as a replacement for the earlier University Senate (1963-1983). The faculty is vested with primary governance responsibility for academic and scholarly activities and faculty personnel matters within the University. In addition, the faculty has participatory or advisory responsibilities for many other University-wide issues. The authority of the University faculty to carry out its responsibilities is delegated to the Faculty Council. The Council reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost).
