DePaul University Office of Institutional Research and Market Analytics records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains reports, memos, correspondence, notes, questionnaires, serialized publications, and general working files related to University-wide and departmental analyses. The earliest records in this collection were placed in the Archives from the Office of Institutional Planning and Research. They comprised both the reports and surveys generated by that office and some of the office's working files. These records date from Dr. Halfter's independent institutional studies (1957-1967), the earlier Department of Institutional Studies (1970-1973), the Department of Analytic Studies (1973-1975), and the Department of Institutional Research (1975-1981), as well as OIPR. Later records acquired from IRMA have been integrated into the collection.

Biographical / Historical
Institutional Research and Market Analytics (IRMA) is the current name of the office once known as the Office of Institutional Planning and Research (OIPR) and is within the division of Enrollment Management and Marketing. The general purpose of IRMA, OIPR, and their predecessors was to provide the university administration and faculty with research data for planning and management. It conducts its own studies and offers consulting services to other university departments and researchers. It gathers data both inside and outside of the university in order to provide projections and frame institutional dialogue. The first Director of Institutional Studies, Dr. Irma T. Halfter, was asked to begin conducting institutional research about 1967, although the Institutional Studies Office was not formally listed until 1970. Dr. Halfter had previously conducted institutional studies herself, some of which are in this collection. In 1975 Gerald H. Gaither was appointed Director of the re-named Office of Institutional Research. Dr. Richard A. Yanikoski replaced him in 1978, and he in turn was succeeded by Dr. Susy S. Chan in 1983. In 1987 Dr. Chan became Vice-President for University Planning and Research, while Donald J. Szezycki was appointed as the new director of OIPR. By 2014, IRMA was led by Liz Sanders as Assistant Vice President.
