Biographical / Historical
The mission of the DePaul University Department of Geography is "to provide students with a high quality geographic education in which teaching and research excellence are paramount." Established by Dr. Richard Houk in 1948, it is now the largest Geography program in the Chicago area, offering both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a certificate program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The department also offers several undergraduate concentrations and a minor option. Past opportunities for students have included scholarships, study abroad trips to Kenya, and membership in Gamma Theta Upsilon, the national Geography Honors Society.
